We’ve done it again: Grand Champion Carcass of the Royal Brisbane Show. Vitulus showed Champion Lightweight Carcass and Champion Heavyweight Carcass which has never before been achieved by any other exhibitor or breed before in the history of the Royal Brisbane Show. The Lightweight Carcass then went on to win the Grand Chmpion Title. We have also won Grand Champion Bull at Royal Brisbane show. 8 years in a row! A record; never before has this been achieved by any exhibitor of any breed at the Royal Brisbane Show and by any Lowline breeder anywhere in the world. It proves we are not breeding just ‘one off wonders’ but consistently breeding and showing Grand Champion animals.

Since its inception Vitulus has earned an enviable reputation in the show ring and in fact the caption on their stud sign says ” Never without a Ribbon” and that’s exactly how they intend to keep it. In their first major showing at the Brisbane Royal Show they took out Senior & Grand Champion Cow, Senior & Grand Champion Bull as well as junior Champion Heifer.

Despite their modest size, there is nothing small about the strength of Australian Lowlines in the Royal Showring. Judges’ comments convince Margo she is on the right track with Lowlines as they develop into a new profitable, alternative beef breed for those with smaller acreages.

What we really need is low birth weight, fast early growth rate, and moderate mature weight. We need those cattle that shift the normal growth curve to fit this pattern and I have been looking for that type of animal in my selection today.

Just as exciting is the fact that Vitulus entered the Led Steer Arena in 2005 and in every show we have exhibited subsequently every steer has been placed. In 2007 at the Royal Brisbane Show we won Grand Champion Carcass.These are Lowline X steers that we have breed and even more importantly for the breed is the fact that they are fulfilling the selection criteria perfectly. We choose shows where the competition is big, broad and tough, as we want to prove our cattle can perform in the commercial arena. Our steers have continually performed in the Meat Standards Australia Eating Quality Awards. This is the benchmark standard for high quality table beef. In 2010 we will be showing our RedLine steers which will be an exciting challenge.
